The title of a Yahoo! article released on December 28, 2012 is “Video released of NYC suspect in (YET ANOTHER) fatal subway push” (Web-site/URL: http://news.yahoo.com/video-released-nyc-suspect-fatal-subway-push-112847851.html).
“Police searched for a WOMAN who killed a man by pushing him in front of a subway train and released surveillance video Friday (December 28, 2012) of her running away from the station”.
“Commuters, meanwhile, ABSORBED (?) the news of the second fatal subway shove in the city this month (December, 2012)”. CAN WE/IS IT POSSIBLE to “absorb” this?
According to Howard Roth, “who takes the subway daily”, “It’s just a REALLY SAD commentary on the world and on human beings, period“. Again, we certainly DON’T need any more “really sad” stuff. We’ve had enough or MORE THAN enough “really sad” stuff TO LAST A LIFETIME. “He said the deadly push was food for thought about subway safety, “but I guess the best thing is what they tell you — DON’T STAND NEAR THE EDGE (obviously) and KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN“. Let’s extend this a bit by saying “Don’t” READ, SLEEP or DAYDREAM on train platforms and if possible, SIT ON THE BENCHES AT THE BACK OF THE PLATFORM UNTIL THE TRAIN COMES; THEN WALK UP AND BOARD.
“Asked about the episode at the station on Queens Boulevard in the Sunnyside neighborhood, Mayor Michael Bloomberg pointed Friday (December 28, 2012) to legal and policy changes that led to the release of many MENTALLY ILL people from psychiatric institutions from the 1960s through 1990s”. Speaking “on “The John Gambling Show with Mayor Mike” on WOR-AM“, Bloomberg said: “The courts or the law HAVE changed and said, NO, you can’t do that unless they’re A DANGER TO SOCIETY; our laws protect you.THAT’S FAIR ENOUGH“. NO IT’S NOT. Again, “mentally ill” is AN EXPLANATION, NOT AN EXCUSE for committing horrific crimes. IT SHOULDN’T be: because this person has a mental illness, then IT IS ACCEPTABLE for this person to go around and assault and kill people. Then ANY TIME someone kills someone else, they will employ/use the insanity defense. THAT IS TERRIBLE POLICY.
“Like many subway riders, Micah Siegel follows her own set of safety precautions during her daily commute: stand against a wall or pillar to keep someone from coming up behind you, WATCH OUT when navigating a crowded or narrow platform to avoid being knocked — even accidentally — onto the tracks“. More specifically, Siegel, a 21-year-old college student…as she waited at Pennsylvania Station on Friday (December 28, 2012), said: “I DO try to be aware of what’s around me and who’s around me, especially as a YOUNG woman” under the age of 35. We need to be careful on train platforms ALL THE TIME, NO MATTER HOW OLD WE ARE to prevent HORRIFYING incidents like these from happening again.
Finally, “So does Roth, who’s 60″. “It sounds a little WIMPY if you’re like, ‘Who’s going to push me?’ But it’s better to be SAFE than SORRY” obviously.
This is THE SECOND horrifying ‘train push’ death this month. “On Dec. 3 (2012), 58-year-old Ki-Suk Han was pushed in front of a train in Times Square. Apparently no other passenger tried to help Han”.
“A photograph of him on the tracks a split second before he was killed was published on the front of the New York Post the next day, causing an uproar and debate over whether the photographer (R. Umar Abbasi), who had been waiting for a train, should have tried to help him and whether the newspaper should have run the image”. The “uproar”, of course, was caused by speculation that Mr. Abassi DELIBERATELY tried to PROFIT off this HORRENDOUS incident.
“A homeless man, 30-year-old Naeem Davis, was charged with murder in Han’s death and was ordered held without bail. He has pleaded not guilty and has said that Han was the aggressor and had attacked him first. The two men hadn’t met before” (Web-site/URL: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/04/new-york-post-photo-subway_n_2237300.html).
This is also the second HORRIFYING death in two days, with the first being a GANG-RAPE victim dying in INDIA (Web-site/URL: http://www.aljazeera.com/news/asia/2012/12/20121228215753910399.html) and both of these cases involve WOMEN. So, in DELHI, a woman is GANG-RAPED and DIES while in NEW YORK, A WOMAN PUSHES A MAN OFF A TRAIN PLATFORM. These extremes of EXTREMELY PASSIVE (India) and EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE/DEMANDING women (New York & some CHINESE women) is DANGEROUS. This is why we must join MALALA YOUSUFZAI‘s cause to EDUCATE & EMPOWER young women so that they can SHARE RESPONSIBILITIES with men. This is THE ONLY way to solve the APATHY vs. ARROGANCE problem/dilemma that is a fundamental characteristic of women in many THIRD-WORLD/DEVELOPING countries INDIA, some MIDDLE EASTERN countries, CHINA and even HONG KONG and TAIWAN). In India, women are EXPECTED to be PASSIVE/SUBMISSIVE, while in CHINA, HONG KONG and TAIWAN, at least among the SUPER-TRADITIONAL,women DEMAND A LOT at the beginning of a relationship in order to be PASSIVE later on (as crazy as that sounds). This is why in traditional Chinese, Hong Kong and Taiwanese circles, there’s all this talk about how men MUST BE TALLER than women,be BETTER & EARN MORE MONEY than the girl they’re dating or planning to marry, blah blah blah and it’s been like this for more than 5000 years (which the Communist Chinese government keeps bragging about). Well, more than 5000 years of lack of again: “If you don’t care about me, why should I care about you?” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI), which, again, will lead us into A NEVER-ENDING CYCLE OF CONFLICT
