WILL CHINA “REFORM Controversial Labor Camps?” Al-Jazeera

The title of an Al-Jazeera article released on January 8, 2013 is “Chinato REFORM‘ controversial labour camps” (Web-site/URL: http://www.aljazeera.com/news/asia-pacific/2013/01/20131791544317479.html). WILL THEY?

“Chinese STATE media has reported that the country will reform its controversial system of forced labor camps this year (2013)”Let’s remind ourselves once again how UNRELIABLE STATE media” is.

“The STATE-run Xinhua news agency’s announcement on Monday contradicted earlier media reports, which cited domestic security chief Meng Jianzhu, that said the country would put an end to the the system”. “The Chinese government will this year (2013) push the reform of its controversial re-education through labor system, according
to a national political and legal work conference on Monday (January 14, 2013)”.

“The “re-education through LABOR” system, which has been in place since 1957, has allowed authorities to lock up defendants for up to FOUR YEARS WITHOUT TRIAL“. “re-education through labor”, of course, is the Chinese equivalent of TORTURE.

“Earlier on Monday (January 7, 2013), CCTV, the STATE broadcaster, said on its official microblog site (Weibo) that the “use of the re-education through labor system WILL end this year (2013), after approval from the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC)”AgainTHIS MEANS NO MORE than anything else that comes out of the NPCan UNELECTED body.

“Critics of the country’s “re-education through labor” system say that it undermines the rule of law which is used against political activists”.

According to Guo Xue Hong, “a former detainee in one of the camps (“who has spent a year in the camp, with the stress of the experience bringing on a stroke that has left him crippled”), “They (the Chinese government) SHOULD ABOLISH the labor camp system. China ALREADY HAS a legal system with proper procedures, labor camps are TOO RANDOM […] A party leader can just PICK UP THE PHONE and someone will be in jail“. It’s this FAULTY PREMISE that GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ARE INFALLIBLE/CAN DO NO WRONG and of courseNOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH.

Finally, according to He Weifang, “a law professor at Peking University”, “IF it can be abolished this year (2013), I think it’s an EXTREMELY IMPORTANT step toward rule of law“.

Again, all of this is coming from “STATE media”, which is UNRELIABLE/A CHINESE GOVERNMENT PROPAGANDA MACHINE.
