The title of a recently released Yahoo! article is “Vonn to have surgery in US next week after crash” (Web-site/URL: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/vonn-surgery-us-next-week-173157818–ski.html).
“Lindsey Vonn will head home for surgery in Colorado next week after TEARING A LIGAMENT in her right knee and BREAKING A BONE in her lower leg in a crash at the world championships”.
“Vonn said Wednesday (February 6, 2013) that SHE PLANS TO COMPETE in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, which start in 12 months. She was released from the hospital late Tuesday (February 5, 2013) and returned to the team hotel”.
“in a statement”, Vonn said: “I am GRATEFUL to my fans for the outpouring of support, which has really helped me STAY POSITIVE“, which of course is critical. I CAN ASSURE YOU that I WILL WORK AS HARD AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE to be ready to represent my country next year (2014) in Sochi”.
According to team physician William Sterett, “She’ll be heading back to Vale (Colorado) and I will be doing surgery on her knee early next week. Lindsey is doing well” given the circumstances. In other words, how “well” can someone possibly be doing with A TORN ACL and A BROKEN LEG? “She’s IN GOOD SPIRITS“ which, again, is amazing, given her GRUESOME injuries.
According to Alpine director Patrick Riml, “She’s got her MINDSET, she’s going to come back STRONGER THAN SHE WAS. She’s got her goal – ‘I’LL BE BACK in Lake Louise ‘ – and Lindsey will DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO BE BACK“. So Vonn is A DETERMINED ATHLETE.
Sterett went on: “The fracture is called an impaction fracture” or a fracture upon IMPACT. “IT SHOULD NOT REQUIRE ANY SURGERY“, but “it” MIGHT. “It just needs to be NON-WEIGHT ON CRUTCHES“, which is bad enough already. “The hospital staff did an excellent job with X-rays, MRI. She had VERY GOOD care and they were VERY, VERY HELPFUL“. This is EXPECTED (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI) and ESSENTIAL for someone with A TORN ACL and A BROKEN LEG.
“Sterett said Vonn was ”A LITTLE (?) banged up and SORE EVERYWHERE” obviously. Also TEARING A KNEE LIGAMENT and BREAKING A LEG is MORE than “a little banged up”, MUCH MORE. “She’s intently focusing on the next step and the next step now is getting from point A to point B, with point B being NEXT SEASON” which means that her availability for the 2014 Winter Olympics is IN DOUBT.
“U.S. SPEED coach Chip White also found Vonn (to be) MOTIVATED by her injury“. “Last night (February 5, 2013) she was (angry), but she was also POSITIVE that she’s coming back and she’s going to COME BACK STRONG“. This is the attitude to have. “We’re looking forward to her return. SHE’S A GREAT COMPETITOR AND ALWAYS BE” obviously. Unfortunately however WE JUST DON’T KNOW/WE CAN’T BE SURE ABOUT when Vonn will “return”. “She has that DETERMINATION. IF SHE WANTS TO BE (as strong as before) SHE WILL BE“. “determination” of course is critical in LIFE NOT JUST IN/FOR OVERCOMING INJURIES. Also, notice “speed coach”. There should also be a SAFETY “coach” or perhaps this coach’s role could be expanded into “speed and SAFETY coach”.
“Sterett left open the possibility of Vonn requiring more than one surgery, saying that with these types of injuries ”THAT’S ALWAYS A POSSIBILITY“.
“However, the plan NOW was ONLY ONE operation“.
Finally, Vonn finished off: “I want to say thank you to the amazing medical staff that cared for me. I plan on returning to Vail as soon as I can to have the necessary surgeries“. This is another statement of DETERMINATION.
So just like ROBIN ROBERTS, who beat BREAST CANCER and then a horrible immune system disorder (Web-site/URL: http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/robin-roberts-to-return-to-good-morning-america-february-20-002600792.html), if anyone can beat something as GRUESOME as A TORN ACL and A FRACTURED LEG, it’s LINDSEY VONN.
