The title of a recently released Yahoo! article is “China’s Xi FLEXES (political) MUSCLES , chooses REFORMIST (?) VP: sources” (Web-site/URL: http://news.yahoo.com/chinas-xi-flexes-muscle-chooses-reformist-vp-sources-210218387–business.html).
“A REFORMIST (?) member of China’s decision-making Politburo, Li Yuanchao, is set to become the country’s vice president this week instead of a more senior and conservative official best known for keeping the media in check, sources said”.
“The National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s RUBBER-STAMP parliament, will vote in Xi and Li as president and vice president respectively on March 14 (2013)”. Of course we know how problematic “rubber stamp” political bodies are.
According to “the source with leadership ties”, “LI YUANCHAO will be (the next) vice president, not Liu Yunshan. It was XI‘s decision and a sign (that) he is strong and able to say ‘NO‘ to (former President) Jiang (Zemin)” Of course this is something that VERY FEW people can claim because, as we know, Jiang Zemin wanted to be like MAO ZEDONG who of course was A TYRANT/DICTATOR.
According to Guo Liangping, “a Chinese politics expert at the National University of Singapore’s East Asia Institute”, “The vice presidential appointment “in part is COMPENSATION for him not getting into the Politburo Standing Committee”. Of course, this kind of “compensation” is only available for people whom THE COMMUNIST PARTY LIKES/FAVORS. “That position has HIGH EXPOSURE TO THE WORLD, it’s HIGH PROFILE, probably more PRESTIGIOUS, but in terms of REAL POWER, it’s LIMITED” obviously. Again, this is EXPECTED (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI), because in a society like CHINA, IT’S ALL ABOUT “power”.
Finally, according to Kerry Brown, “executive director of the China Studies Center at the University of Sydney”, “This time, it’s kind of a HOLDING position. If Xi wants a PROACTIVE, TIGHTLY ALLIED kind of vice president, then the vice president will have power. If he wants a PURELY SYMBOLIC figure who is there to DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, then that’s (also) what the vice president will do” again, AS EXPECTED (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). In countries such as CHINA, VICE presidents are expected to be YES MEN as opposed to/instead of INDEPENDENT REASONED VOICES. THE PRESIDENT has ALL the power. The vice president is only/merely A FIGURE HEAD.
Given that China’s government is a “rubber stamp” authority, IS IT POSSIBLE for Li Yuanchao to be a “reformer?” Also, we have another “source with leadership ties”. Again, this is EXTREMELY problematic because this is exactly how GAO WEI and CUI XILING got into the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Gao nagged CUHK to admit his then-GIRLFRIEND into CUHK because he was a PhD. (had a PhD. degree) so his WIFE could get to CUHK.
