The title of a recently released MSNBC article is “Markey (and) Gomez win primaries to square off in Mass. Senate race” (Web-site/URL: http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/04/30/17991363-markey-gomez-win-primaries-to-square-off-in-mass-senate-race?lite).
“The race to fill JOHN KERRY‘s Massachusetts Senate seat is now set with Republican businessman and former Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez and LONG-TIME Democratic Congressman Edward Markey coming out victorious in primaries on Tuesday (April 30, 2013)”. “long-time” will be a theme in this analysis as we shall see.
“Markey, who has served in the U.S. House since 1976, defeated fellow U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch after an early endorsement from Kerry who vacated the seat to serve as U.S.Secretary of State”. An endorsement from the resigning senator should be A BENEFIT, especially someone with HIGH APPROVAL RATINGS such as Kerry but again WE NEVER KNOW/
“Markey will PROBABLY enjoy FRONT-RUNNER status in the traditionally BLUE (i.e. DEMOCRATIC) state, but at his victory rally Tuesday night (April 30, 2013), he and Sen. Elizabeth Warren warned supporters NOT to take anything for granted“. WE MUSTN’T GET AHEAD OF OURSELVES. We all remember what happened to MARTHA COAKLEY, who lost to SCOTT BROWN when Coakley claimed that there were NO more terrorists in AFGHANISTAN (Web-site/URL: http://hotair.com/archives/2010/01/12/coakley-says-no-more-terrorists-in-afghanistan/). PEOPLE THOUGHT that Coakley was a shoo-in because TED KENNEDY had won in Massachusetts so many times (re-elected SEVEN times since a special election to replace his brother JOHN F KENNEDY on November 7, 1962), but in the 2010 special election, that turned out NOT to be the case.
More specifically, Markey said: “This election, ladies and gentleman, WILL NOT be easy…” again obviously.“[Republican interest groups] are ready to move mountains of money to buy this election for big oil, and the NRA and those who want to TURN BACK THE CLOCK ON WOMEN’S RIGHTS“, which of course is a CRITICAL area because women are a CRITICAL voting bloc. More specifically, of course, the phrase “women’s rights” refers to ABORTIONS.
“UNLIKE his Democratic challenger, Gomez is NEW to politics. The son of Colombian immigrants, Gomez became a Navy SEAL and earned an MBA at Harvard that kick started a career in PRIVATE EQUITY. He raised SIGNIFICANTLY MORE MONEY than opponents U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan and state Rep. Dan Winslow”. Again, for Republicans, it’s all about MONEY and supporting BIG BANKS on WALL STREET.
More specifically, Gomez said: “I want to take you BACK IN TIME. The year was 1976; 37 years ago. GERALD FORD was president. Al Gore had not yet invented the Internet … That was A LIFETIME ago. Me, I was just playing little league baseball. And that was when Ed Markey first got elected to Congress. Congress has enough POLITICIANS. If we keep sending POLITICIANS to Washington, (then) we will keep getting THE SAME RESULTS“. It certainly looks/sounds like Gabriel Gomez is trying to re-kindle/re-ignite the ANTI-INCUMBENT movement of 2010 the first mid-term election of the OBAMA presidency, in which DEMOCRATS lost A STAGGERING 63 HOUSE seats (Web-site/URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections,_2010), which was MUCH worse than when DEMOCRATS wrestled control of the House away from Republicans in 2006 when the GOP only lost 30 House seats (Web-site/URL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections,_2006).
So, we have our latest Senate race to watch and the battle lines have been drawn as a political newcomer (Gabriel Gomez) battles to replace A LONGTIME INCUMBENT (Ed Markey) to replace JOHN KERRY who had served since 1985 before leaving to become Secretary of State. (Web-site/URL http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Kerry).
