The title of a recently released Yahoo! article is “Turkish leader Erdogan to meet Istanbul protesters” (Web-site/URL: http://news.yahoo.com/turkish-protesters-hold-fast-despite-erdogans-warning-152257580.html). Will this satisfy them?
“Prime Minister (Recep) Tayyip Erdogan has agreed to meet on Wednesday (June 12, 2013) with leaders of the movement whose peaceful protests in Istanbul spiraled into a wave of anti-government demonstrations across Turkey”.
“Erdogan has repeatedly dismissed the protesters as “capulcular“, or riff-raff. But Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said on Monday (June 10, 2013) leaders of the Gezi Park Platform group had asked to meet him in an effort to end unrest in which police have blasted demonstrators with TEAR GAS and WATER CANNON“. This is expected in DICTATORSHIPS, not democracies.
“Arinc told reporters in Ankara”: “They asked to meet the prime minister and he agreed to meet with the organizers“. This is a SPOKESPERSON-like statement.
According to Eyup Muhcu, “head of the Chamber of Architects and part of the Taksim Solidarity Platform, speaking before the Wednesday (June 12, 2013) meeting was announced”, “We want life on the square to return to normal. We are ready for dialogue…but the prime minister’s remarks indicate he is NOT open to dialogue“. This is problematic.
“Erdogan also criticized speculators after the stock market fell almost 15 percent last week”. This is A COLLAPSE. “Those who attempt to sink the bourse, you will collapse… If we catch your speculation, we will CHOKE you. No matter who you are, we will CHOKE YOU“. This is getting VERY NASTY.
Finally, “Timothy Ash, head of emerging markets at Standard Bank, said his comments marked an about-turn for an administration that valued foreign investment and had been sensitive to markets”. “That era now seems to have ended and the administration appears set ON A COLLISION COURSE with foreign investors and with markets“. “on a collision course” clearly indicates that the “force and pain technique” will be used and things are about to get REALLY NASTY (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).
To conclude, let’s return once again to the title: “Turkish leader Erdogan to meet Istanbul protesters”. Yes, Erdogan seems to be willing to “meet Istanbul protesters”, but he is also making it crystal clear that HE will ultimately call the shots/decide what is to be done and how what needs to be done will be done. Erdogan clearly seems like the latest/another TYRANT/DICTATOR.
