The title of a recently released Yahoo! 7 article is “Egypt army topples Islamist president” (Web-site/URL: http://au.news.yahoo.com/latest/a/-/latest/17862147/egypt-army-topples-islamist-president/).
“The Egyptian army toppled Islamist President Mohamed Morsi after a week of bloodshed that killed nearly 50 people as millions took to the streets to demand an end to his TURBULENT SINGLE year of rule”. The past year of Morsy’s rule has been EXTREMELY “turbulent”h
“The announcement, made on state television by Morsi’s own defence minister, armed forces chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, drew A RAPTUROUS WELCOME from thousands of protesters who have camped out on the streets of Cairo for days”. “drew a rapturous welcome” suggests that people are HAPPY or perhaps even ECSTATIC about the army taking over from Morsy.
“Sisi laid out details of the roadmap for a political transition, saying the Islamist-drafted constitution would be frozen and presidential elections held early, WITHOUT SPECIFYING WHEN“. This is what POLITICIANS are famous for.
“The armed forces would “REMAIN FAR AWAY (?) from politics“, he stressed”. Considering that EVERYTHING is politicized these days, IT’S IMPOSSIBLE to “remain far away from politics”.
“Morsi (Morsy) is detained in a military facility with top aides, a senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood said Thursday (July 4, 2013)” .
“Gehad El-Haddad, the son of a top Morsi (Morsy) aide, told AFP“, “Morsi (Morsy) and the entire presidential team are under house arrest in the Presidential Republican Guards Club”. “Haddad’s father, Essam El-Haddad, widely seen as Morsi’s (Morsy’s) right-hand man, was among those held, he added”.
“A senior Islamist official later told AFP Morsi (Morsy) had been separated from senior aides detained in a military facility”.
According to Gehad El-Haddad, “a senior Muslim Brotherhood official and son of a top Morsi (Morsy) aide”, “Morsi (Morsy) has been separated from his aides and was taken to The Defense Ministry”.
“On hearing the news of Morsi’s (Morsy’s) toppling, TENS OF THOUSANDS of people TOOK TO THE STREETS of the capital (Cairo) to celebrate, CHEERING, WHISTLING, LETTING OFF FIRECRACKERS and honking car horns in JOYOUS scenes“.
According to one celebrator, Omar Sherif, “It’s a NEW HISTORICAL moment. We got rid of Morsi (Morsy) and the Muslim Brotherhood”. However, the army is JUST AS BAD or EVEN WORSE THAN Morsy.
“In an amateur video posted online, Morsi declared “I am the ELECTED president of Egypt” and URGED people to “DEFEND THIS LEGITIMACY“. There are TWO things to note here. First, “urged” sounds like a PLEA (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-AJviZ8Itk) and “urged people to DEFEND this legitimacy” sounds DEFENSIVE (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).
“The opposition Congress Party of former Arab League chief Amr Mussa insisted “this IS NOT a coup“. WHAT IS IT THEN?
According to a Congress spokesman, “The 2,000-year-old Coptic Church, the 1,000-year-old Azhar mosque, the liberals, the Salafists (CONSERVATIVE Islamists), the police (and) the army are all behind the call for EARLY ELECTIONS“.
“Morsi (Morsy), Egypt’s FIRST freely elected president, came under massive pressure in the run-up to Sunday’s (June 30, 2013) anniversary of his maiden year in office, with his opponents accusing him of failing the 2011 revolution by CONCENTRATING POWER IN the hands of his Muslim Brotherhood” meaning that other groups and interests WERE NOT represented.
“The embattled 61-year-old proposed a “CONSENSUS (?) government” as a way out of the country’s worst crisis since the 2011 uprising ended three decades of authoritarian rule by Hosni Mubarak”. THERE WASN’T ANY “consensus” under Morsy and THERE LIKELY WON’T BE ANY “consensus” with the military back in power either.
“US President Barack Obama said he was “DEEPLY concerned” over Morsi’s (Morsy’s) ouster, urging a QUICK (?) return to elected civilian government“. Again, there are TWO things to note here. First, “President Obama said he was “DEEPLY concerned” over the recent events in Egypt, but again unfortunately as we’ve mentioned on numerous occasions, US reputation in the Middle East IS NOT good. In fact it’s pretty close to AWFUL. So we could say that the US President’s HANDS ARE TIED here.
Finally, “In a statement on Facebook”, Essam al-Haddad, Morsi’s (Morsy’s) national security adviser, said: “For the sake of Egypt and for historical accuracy, let’s call what is happening by its real name: MILITARY COUP“. “As TENSIONS MOUNTED and crowds poured onto the streets to DEMAND Morsi’s (Morsy’s) resignation, Haddad said: “As I write these lines, I AM FULLY AWARE that these may be THE LAST LINES I get to post on this page“. The Muslim Brotherhood used to be so powerful. Now it seems like they are full of FEAR. THIS IS QUITE A SHIFT IN EGYPT’S POLITICAL CLIMATE in the sense that in 2012, people seemed to HATE SCAF and WANTED the Muslim Brotherhood and now, it’s THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE.
The conclusion here is simply that Egypt now transitions from ONE HELL INTO ANOTHER.
