MALALA YOUSAFZAI At The UN: Reuters

The title of a recently released Reuters article is “Pakistan’s Malala, shot by Taliban, takes education PLEA to (the) U.N.” (Web-site/URL: http://in.reuters.com/article/2013/07/12/malala-yousafzai-un-idINDEE96B08320130712).

“Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl who was shot in the head by the Taliban last year (2012) for demanding education for girls, marked her 16th birthday with a passionate speech at the United Nations on Friday (July 19, 2013) in which she said EDUCATION COULD CHANGE THE WORLD“. SHE (Malala Yousafzai) has “changed the world” already, although, of course, she doesn’t realize this. NO HERO EVER REALIZES THE IMPACT OF THEIR WORK. They do what they do because they realize IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO/IT’S THEIR DUTY TO THEIR PEERS/HUMANITY.

“speaking out for the first time since she was attacked”, Yousafzai said: “Let us pick up our BOOKS and PENS. THEY ARE OUR MOST POWERFUL WEAPON“, INSTEAD OF guns and bombs. ONE child, ONE teacher, ONE pen and ONE book CAN CHANGE THE WORLD“. This is something that Malala has reiterated time and time again.  “EDUCATION IS THE ONLY SOLUTION“. “education” and PUTTING WOMEN TO WORK “(are) the only (solutions)”. Again, WE CAN’T HAVE PEOPLE FROM SHANGHAI ADVOCATING THIS IDEA OF WOMEN OR 50% OF SOCIETY DOING NOTHING except SITTING AT HOME & PLANNING PREGNANCIES.

“(Speaking) to cheers from the students gathered at U.N. hall”, Yousafzai said: “They shot MY FRIENDS too. THEY (the Taliban) THOUGHT THAT THE BULLETS WOULD SILENCE US. But THEY FAILED and out of that SILENCE came THOUSANDS of voices”There are TWO things to note here. The Taliban are ALL ABOUT “bullets” and “silencing” political opponents. On top of this notice “They shot my friends too”. This demonstrates how SELFLESS Malala is. She clearly DOES NOT want this to be about her. Instead she’s thinking about her “friends” and THE CAUSE FOR WHICH SHE IS FIGHTING, THE CAUSE OF HER LIFE: EDUCATION FOR ALL GIRLS and we can surely extend this to EQUAL WORK OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL WOMEN.

The terrorists thought they would change my aims and STOP my ambitions, but NOTHING changed in my life except this: WEAKNESS, FEAR and HOPELESSNESS died. STRENGTH, POWER AND COURAGE WAS BORN“. “strength, power and courage” are qualities that MALALA has an abundance of and qualities that we could only WISH to have more of.

I am NOT against anyone, neither am I here to speak in terms of PERSONAL REVENGE against the Taliban or any other terrorist group. I’m here to speak up for the right of education for every child. I want education for the sons and daughters of the Taliban and all TERRORISTS and EXTREMISTS. I DO NOT even hate the Taliban who shot me. EVEN IF THERE IS A GUN IN MY HAND AND HE IS STANDING IN FRONT OF ME, I WOULD NOT shoot himbecause Malala realizes that REVENGE won’t get us anywhere/WON’T achieve anything (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4h7cmuRLwME), but only someone like Malala would be able to say after going through what she has gone/been through

“Ban said that the United Nations was committed to A TARGET OF getting ALL children in school by the end of 2015. Is this A REALISTIC EXPECTATION? (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). “NO CHILD SHOULD HAVE TO DIE FOR GOING TO SCHOOL. Nowhere should TEACHERS FEAR TO TEACH or CHILDREN FEAR TO LEARN. TOGETHER, we CAN change this pictureand we MUST. “TOGETHER, let us follow the lead of this brave young girl, Malala”.

“U.N. Special Envoy for Global Education, former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, said Friday’s (July 12, 2013) event was not just a celebration of Malala’s birthday and of her recovery, but of her VISION“, ESPECIALLY “her vision”.

“He invoked “her dream that NOTHING, no POLITICAL INDIFFERENCE, no GOVERNMENT INACTION, no INTIMIDATION, no THREATS (and) no ASSASSIN’S BULLETS should ever deny the right of EVERY SINGLE childto be able to go to school“. more specifically/especially “every single” GIRL. THIS IS THE CAUSE FOR WHICH MALALA ALMOST DIED FOR.

UNABLE TO SAFELY RETURN TO Pakistan, Yousafzai enrolled in a school in Birmingham, England in March (2013). Her MOTHER wiped away tears on Friday (July 12, 2013) as she watched her daughter thank all those who helped save her life”. We need to mention TWO CRITICAL points here. First since Malala is “unable to return safely to Pakistan”OF COURSE SHE SHOULD STAY IN THE UK because “safety” is a TOP priority. Surely we would rather live in exile than go back to our own countries and face the high probability (or in Malala’s case the ALMOST CERTAINTY/INEVITABILITY) of DEATH. Secondly, this is one of the few times (or perhaps THE FIRST?) we’ve seen Malala’s MOTHER being mentioned. THis illustrates another important point. WITHOUT WOMEN SOCIETY IS NOT/CANNOT BE CONSIDERED COMPLETE.

Finally, Yousafzai finished off: “The extremists were and they are AFRAID OF BOOKS AND PENS, THE POWER OF education frightens them. THEY ARE AFRAID OF WOMEN. When we were in Swat … WE REALIZED THE IMPORTANCE OF PENS AND BOOKS WHEN WE SAW THE GUNS“/

To conclude, we can relate Malala’s case to something that DALLAS MAVERICKS’ coach RICK CARLISLE said about DESHAWN STEVENSON when the latter returned to Dallas to receive his 2011 NBA Championship ring: “Unbelievable TOUGHNESS and ATTITUDE… (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY9noZBzcM0). We can only wish that we could come back from something as HORRIFIC as being ALMOST ASSASSINATED BY A TALIBAN BULLET TO THE HEAD, BUT OF COURSE, IT’S IMPOSSIBLE. MALALA IS TRULY AN AMAZING HEROINE AND THE GOLD STANDARD AS FAR AS HOW EVERYONE SHOULD ACT.
