On The Road To Recovery From ARIEL CASTRO’s Hell: MICHELLE KNIGHT (MSNBC)

The title of a recently released MSNBC article is “‘Life is tough, but I’M TOUGHER!’ Cleveland kidnapping victim (Michelle Knight) writes as diaries detail Ariel Castro’s CRUELTY” (web-site/URL: http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/07/31/19802673-life-is-tough-but-im-tougher-cleveland-kidnapping-victim-writes-as-diaries-detail-ariel-castros-cruelty#.UfpoVgMyvxE.twitter).

“Declaring, “Life is tough, but I’M TOUGHER!” Cleveland kidnap victim Michelle Knight thanked police in a handwritten note released Wednesday as prosecutors revealed that Ariel Castro’s three victims kept diaries detailing the HORRIFYING conditions they endured“.

According to the note, “which was posted on a Cleveland police Facebook page and which the department confirmed as authentic to NBC News on Wednesday (July 31, 2013)”, “I am OVERWHELMED by the amount of THOUGHTS, LOVE & PRAYERS expressed by COMPLETE STRANGERS. Again, “thoughts, love & prayers” are expressions of COMPASSION,something which is in EXTREMELY short supply these days (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4h7cmuRLwME). “It is COMFORTINGobviously. “Life is TOUGH, but I’m TOUGHER!” THAT’S THE SPIRIT TO HAVE.

“In a sentencing memo filed ahead of Castro’s formal sentencing hearing Thursday (August 1, 2013), Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy McGinty wrote that a “REMORSELESSCastro SERIALLY ABUSED them PHYSICALLY, EMOTIONALLY and SEXUALLY  on a DAILY basis“. Again, “serial abuse” is HORRIFYING and the fact that Castro was still “remorseless” is DEEPLY TROUBLING. “The entries speak of FORCED SEXUAL ASSAULT, of being LOCKED IN A DARK ROOM, of ANTICIPATING THE NEXT SESSION OF ABUSE, of THE DREAMS OF SOMEDAY ESCAPING AND BEING REUNITED WITH FAMILY, of being CHAINED TO A WALL, of BEING HELD LIKE A PRISONER OF WAR (POW), of MISSING THE LIVES THEY ONCE ENJOYED, of EMOTIONAL ABUSE , of his THREATS TO KILL , of BEING TREATED LIKE AN ANIMAL, of CONTINUOUS ABUSE and (ultimately) of DESIRING FREEDOMOther than “desiring freedom” this is A LAUNDRY LIST OF HORRORS.

Finally, “The memo also includes a statement from Dr. Frank Ochberg, a widely known clinical psychologist who wrote the first standard textbook on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)”

“Ochberg concluded that the women were so badly mistreated and manipulated that they developed “Stockholm syndrome” — slowly “bonding” with their captor in gratitude for RARE small favors he would grant them”. These “small favors”, of course, as we know, became INCREASINGLY “rare”.

Little by little, you are allowedthe gifts of life‘. You are like an INFANT, TOTALLY DEPENDENT on your MOTHER (?) for survivalor perhaps FATHER?As you receive these gifts of life, without consciously realizing what is occurring, you feel some WARMTHeven LOVEtoward that life givereven though that “life giver” may have treated his/her captives HORRIBLY. “But I know this. They came out ALIVE“. THIS IS THE KEY POINT. “They came out when THEY COULD come out. They acted with FORTITUDE, COURAGE and GRACE“, three characteristics which, againare in EXTREMELY short supply these days. “We have reason to BE PROUD OF them and to be INSPIRED BY them“. BINGO

To conclude, let’s return once again to the title and the first sentence: “‘Life is tough, but I’M TOUGHER!’ Cleveland kidnapping victim (Michelle Knight) writes as diaries detail Ariel Castro’s CRUELTY“. This is EXTREME “cruelty” that most of us can’t even begin to imagine/comprehend. “Declaring “Life is tough, but I’M TOUGHER!“ Cleveland kidnap victim Michelle Knight thanked police in a handwritten note released Wednesday as prosecutors revealed that Ariel Castro’s three victims kept diaries detailing the HORRIFYING conditions they endured”. Being held and RAPED over a 10-year period IS INDEED “horrifying”. This ordeal is FINALLY over.
