The title of a recently released Fox News article is “Syria plan IN LIMBO, Obama asks Congress to postpone strike vote” (Web-site/URL: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/09/10/president-obama-to-address-nation-on-syria/).
“President Obama, in a national address originally intended to RALLY the country behind a strike on Syria, instead used the moment to announce he was hitting PAUSE on military action in order to let negotiations over a Russia-backed plan run their course”. There are TWO things to note here. First, the US and RUSSIA are working together to solve the Syrian crisis? WOW. Also, “pause” DOESN’T seem like Obama is RATCHETING UP the pressure on Syrian dictator BASHAR AL-ASSAD and it also reminds us of what MARIA SHRIVER said about THE IMPORTANCE OF “the pause button” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5xLcLIlXqU).
“On Tuesday night (September 10 2013), Obama said: “This initiative has THE POTENTIAL to remove the threat of chemical weapons without the use of force”. “potential” IS NOT A GUARANTEE.
“The President said he has, therefore, “asked the leaders of Congress to postpone a vote to authorize the use of force while we pursue this DIPLOMATIC (?) path”. Again, given that we’re talking about BASHAR AL-ASSAD, A TYRANT, is “diplomacy” possible?”
“Obama said Tuesday (September 10 2013) it’s “TOO EARLY TO TELL” if this proposal will work. He said any agreement must verify that Bashar Assad is keeping his commitments. He said the U.S. will work with other members of the U.N. Security Council on a resolution to COMPEL Assad to surrender his chemical weapons and ultimately destroy them”. Again there are TWO things to note here. First, OF COURSE, “it’s too early to tell” IF this proposal will work”. On top of this, “compel” is yet another/the latest example of the “force and pain technique” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).
“In the meantime, he said he’s ordered the U.S. military to “maintain their current posture to KEEP THE PRESSURE ON Assad” and “BE IN A POSITION TO RESPOND IF DIPLOMACY FAILS”. Again “the force and pain technique” will be used here because “diplomacy” WILL, in all likelihood, “fail” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).
“The President claimed that Assad WOULD BE EMBOLDENED if the U.S. fails to act, and that over time U.S. troops “would again face the prospect of CHEMICAL WARFARE on the battlefield”. GEORGE W BUSH was saying the same thing about SADDAM HUSSEIN in IRAQ. So, we’re mentioning the most recent ex-president again.
“He said that while he had resisted calls for military action in the country’s civil war, the situation “PROFOUNDLY changed” after the Assad regime “GASSED to death” hundreds of people last month (August 2013). He said a “TARGETED military strike” WOULD NOT embroil the U.S. in another war and vowed he WOULD “NOT put American boots on the ground in Syria”. There are THREE things to note here. First, “gassed to death” is HORRIFIC and another example of the “force and pain technique” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). Secondly, there’s always a chance, however small/slight/minimal, that this “targeted military strike” will MISS its INTENDED “target”, which would then put CIVILIANS at risk and we certainly DON’T want that because civilians have suffered more than enough over the course of this revolution starting on January 14, 2011 when ZINE EL ABEDINE BEN ALI was overthrown in TUNISIA (Web-site/URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zine_El_Abidine_Ben_Ali). On top of this, if there needed more “American boots on the ground”, THERE WOULD PROBABLY BE A RIOT because again Americans are SICK & TIRED OF WAR.
“Seemingly REBUFFING (i.e. REJECTING) criticism of a Kerry remark that any U.S. strike would be “small”, Obama clarified: “The United States military DOESN’T DO pinpricks. Even a LIMITED strike will SEND A MESSAGE to Assad THAT NO OTHER COUNTRY CAN DELIVER“. WOW, so the President MEANS BUSINESS here.
“He closed by saying that while the U.S. CANNOT BE (?) the world’s “policemen,” when “with modest effort and risk, we can stop children from being GASSED TO DEATH and thereby make our own children safer over the long run, I believe we SHOULD act. That’s what makes America different”. From this, we can coin the term selective aggression. Secondly, once again, “gassed to death” is HORRIFIC and another example of the “force and pain technique” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). On top of this, as we know, MANY countries ARE NOT happy about the United States being/acting like “the world’s policemen”, especially in the Arab world and CHINA, although China has many other issues/problems of its own that are beyond the scope of this analysis (e.g. the sick feud over the SENKAKU islands).
“Obama won praise from some corners for his explanation of the rationale for military force, though supporters of such a plan worried the speech came too late and would do little to move the needle of public opinion”.
“Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. said in a statement that Obama should have proposed a “clearer plan to TEST THE SERIOUSNESS” of the new Russia proposal”. What would this “plan” include? On top of this, as we know, McCain and Graham are fiercely PRO-WAR.
“On the other side, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., delivered a speech saying he was UNCONVINCED of the need for ANY military response“. Again, this is EXPECTED, because Paul is one of the President’s FIERCEST ADVERSARIES as a member of THE TEA PARTY (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI . Paul is also thinking about a 2016 WHITE HOUSE bid (Web-site/URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rand_Paul).
“Obama is now IN A TRICKY SPOT, balancing between the threat of military action and a stated desire to pursue the diplomatic track. He and his top officials are publicly wary that the Assad regime would fully comply with a plan to turn over its chemical weapons”. “Obama is now in a tricky spot” obviously. Or, more accurately, the President “is now in a tricky spot”...AGAIN.
“At the same time, Obama continues to face an UPHILL climb in getting Congress to approve the use of force”. Again, when Congress and the President fail to work together/resolve their differences, the government becomes DYSFUNCTIONAL and this has been the case since 2006 when DEMOCRATS took over Congress (both the House & the Senate) for the first time since the 1994 mid-term elections during the BUSH presidency and again when THE GOP retook THE HOUSE in the 2010 mid-term elections during the OBAMA presidency with the Democratic HOUSE “shellacking” when they lost 63 seats. The chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee at the time, CHRIS VAN HOLLEN, EXPECTED a loss of 28 House seats and 4 Senate seats.
“And with the possibility of a diplomatic solution on the table, some congressional leaders – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi among them — were even less inclined to entertain a vote on military action”. “It is NOT NECESSARY for Congress to give the President this authority. WE ARE GRATEFUL that he has asked for it, but if he sees an opportunity, we DON’T want the Russians to think that his leverage is diminished because of a vote (that) may or (in all likelihood) MAY NOT succeed within the Congress”. THIS IS INTERESTING, given that most POLITICIANS are POWER-CRAZED/POWER-MAD.
“Russia’s Vladimir Putin sought to use the sudden change in dynamic to his advantage and the advantage of HIS ALLY Bashar al-Assad. He DEMANDED Tuesday (September 10, 2013) that the U.S. abandon discussions on military action – a statement McCain, who SUPPORTS military action, called “UNACCEPTABLE” again obviously. Also, “demanding” is another fundamental characteristic of “Difficult People” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI Once again, Putin and Obama ARE NOT on the same page.
So, “Syria plan IN LIMBO” again, AS EXPECTED .
