The title of a recently released CBS News article is “Ted Cruz FAUX filibuster goes on as Senate readies spending bill vote” (Web-site/URL: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57604452/ted-cruz-launches-faux-filibuster-as-senate-readies-spending-bill-vote/?tag=socsh). “faux” is our first BIG hint that Cruz’s ANTICS AREN’T working.
“Congress continued its steady march toward a possible government shutdown Tuesday (September 24 2013( with another round of POSTURING, but little action to keep the government running past next Monday (September 30 2013)” again AS EXPECTED (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). POLITICIANS are ALL ABOUT “posturing but little (IF ANY) action”.
“Both the Democratic and Republican leaders in the Senate seemed poised to speed up a vote on a SPENDING bill from House Republicans that would have funded the government through Dec. 15 (2013), but stripped out funding for the Affordable Care Act”. Again, we see that word: “spending” which again reminds of CHINESE HOUSEWIVES obsessing over whether things are CHEAP or EXPENSIVE. “Many Senate Republicans were prepared to vote for the measure, which they favored and Democrats were ready to get their hands on the bill so they could amend it and restore funding for the law“. “Many Senate Republicans were prepared to vote for the measure, which they favored and Democrats were ready to” vote AGAINST it.
“But that possibility ground to a halt as Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, took to the Senate floor to deliver an hours-long speech (that technically is , because of the Senate’s procedural rules). He began talking at 2:41 p.m. ET, announcing that he intended “to speak against Obamacare UNTIL I AM NO LONGER ABLE TO STAND“. These are Ted Cruz’s latest ANTICS.
On the floor, Cruz went on: “Anyone who votes to cut off debate is voting to allow Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid [D-Nev.] to FULLY FUND Obamacare”. That WOULD NOT be a bad thing.
According to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., “(speaking) after Senate Republicans gathered for their weekly lunch meeting”, “I think WE’D ALL BE HARD-PRESSED to explain why we were OPPOSED to a bill we WERE IN FAVOR OF“. This is just like POLITICIANS OPPOSING a bill that THEY SPONSORED/WROTE. POLITICIANS often do this.
According to Michael Steel, “a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner”, “We’ll deal with whatever the Senate passes WHEN THEY PASS IT“. Again, Unfortunately, however, WE STILL DON’T KNOW ANYTHING WILL BE PASSED, because the government still seems to be COMPLETELY DYSFUNCTIONAL AT THE MOMENT. “THERE’S NO POINT IN SPECULATING BEFORE THAT” again obviously.
Finally, “Reid and McConnell both spoke FAVORABLY about THE POSSIBLITY of waiving certain rules to SPEED UP DEBATE. But, while McConnell told reporters that he didn’t object to speeding up the votes, “any one senator can object to any effort to shorten the process“. That is what Cruz is doing with his speech”.
So, Ted Cruz continues his filibuster even though HIS FELLOW REPUBLICANS are now revolting. So he SHOULD STOP but of course he DOESN’T or WON’T/REFUSES TO.
