The title of a recently released Yahoo! article is “Senate votes to send government funding bill back to House” (Web-site/URL: http://nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/09/27/.Ukj6BOPxZjI.twitter).
“The fate of a possible government shutdown now rests with the House of Representatives after the Senate voted Friday (September 27, 2013) to send the GOP-dominated chamber a simple extension of government spending through mid-November (2013)”. There are TWO things to note right off the bat. First, let’s remind ourselves once again that the House and Senate DON’T get along because the Senate is controlled by DEMOCRATS while the House is DOMINATED BY REPUBLICANS. Secondly, EVEN IF the government is funded until mid-November (2013), THERE ISN’T MUCH TIME.
“(Speaking) Friday afternoon (September 27, 2013) at the White House”, Obama said: “Over the next three days, House Republicans will have to decide whether to join the Senate and keep the government open — or shut it down because they get their way on an issue THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DEFICIT“. The odds are good that THERE WILL BE A SHUTDOWN. “Even the threat of a shutdown IS ALREADY probably (?) having a dampening effect on our economy — we saw that last time these kinds of SHENANIGANS were happening up on Capitol Hill”. There are TWO things to note here. First, the prospect of a shutdown IS DEFINITELY “having a dampening effect on our economy”, NOT “probably” (Web-site/URL: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-09-30/u-s-stock-index-futures-slump-on-shutdown-bond-contracts-rally.html). Secondly, again, POLITICIANS are ALL ABOUT “shenanigans”; they CREATE “shenanigans” FOR A LIVING.
“An aide to Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, called the president’s remarks “GRANDSTANDING” and said the House “will take action that reflects the fundamental fact that Americans DON’T want a government shutdown and they DON’T want THE TRAIN WRECK that is Obamacare”. It’s as if Republicans DON’T “grandstand” and DON’T create “train wrecks”. NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH.
“Indeed, Cruz expressed openly his hopes that Republicans would return new legislation to the Senate, where the fight would begin anew — likely with an even shorter window of time before a shutdown”. “(Sbeaking) before the Senate vote”, Cruz said: “I remain CONFIDENT — HOPEFUL and OPTIMISTIC — (that) the House will stand their ground which means this issue is coming back to the Senate”. “I remain confident – hopeful and optimistic – (that) the House will stand their ground” with the Senate TO STAY NEGATIVE. Cruz, of course, was the guy who TALKED ALL NIGHT on September 26, 2013 (Web-site/URL: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/ted-cruzs-obamacare-nighter-ends-21-hours/story?id=20365712).
Finally, Obama finished off: “Some Republicans have suggested that unless I agree to AN EVEN LONGER LIST OF DEMANDS … that they would PUSH THE BUTTON, THROW America INTO DEFAULT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY and RISK THROWING US BACK INTO A RECESSION. I don’t know how I can be more clear about this: nobody gets to threaten the full faith and credit of the United States JUST TO EXTRACT POLITICAL CONCESSIONS“. This is exactly what the GOP is trying to do ahead of THE 2014 MID-TERM ELECTIONS because they can’t unseat Obama now so they will try to take back THE SENATE first while JOSTLING FOR THE 2016 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. They seem to be trying to take back control of the government ONE STEP AT A TIME in the same manner as they are trying to REPEAL HEALTHCARE REFORM.
So, a federal government shutdown now seems to be IMMINENT.
