The title of a recently released Fox News article is “Congressional stalemate rings in government slimdown” (Web-site/URL: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/10/01/partial-shutdown-begins-can-congress-white-house-compromise/).
“What the Obama administration is portraying as a “shutdown” of the federal government — complete with signs posted at the entrances to government buildings, parks and monuments — is turning out to be more of a “slimdown,” as all but non-essential workers reported to their jobs Tuesday (October 1, 2013)”.
According to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, “It’s time for Republicans to STOP OBSESSING OVER OLD BATTLES. I mean, I say to my Republican FRIENDS (?), ObamaCare is OVER. It’s PASSED, IT’S THE LAW“. Unfortunately “obsessing over old battles” is what POLITICIANS do for a living.
“President Obama, speaking in the Rose Garden, urged Republicans to “re-open the government“. Again of course as we know given that there is NO bi-partisanship in Washington DC/on Capitol Hill right now, we can bet that Republicans ARE NOT listening.
Reid went on: “This (the government shutdown) is AN UNNECESSARY BLOW to America”, again obviously, but the GOP are INSISTING on it.
“House Speaker John Boehner claimed that Republicans are the ones trying to keep the government open but “the Senate has CONTINUED TO REJECT our offers“. This is yet another/our latest example of BLAMING & CRITICIZING (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-AJviZ8Itk).
“Ahead of the deadline, the White House budget office ordered agency heads to execute an “ORDERLY (?) shutdown” of their operations due to lack of funds”. As we’ve seen with all the back-and-forth finger-pointing with this shutdown, NO “shutdown” can be COMPLETELY “orderly”.
“(Speaking) of Republicans, in rejecting the latest proposal”, Reid said: “They’ve LOST THEIR MINDS“. This is the latest/yet another example of BLAMING & CRITICIZING (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-AJviZ8Itk).
Finally, “Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell countered”: “Senate Democrats have made it perfectly clear that they’d rather shut down the federal government than accept even the most REASONABLE (?) changes to ObamaCare”. There are TWO things to note here. First, what’s “reasonable?” Again this is open to INTERPRETATIONS (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). Secondly the only “reasonable” thing he GOP wants to do with healthcare reform is to REPEAL it.
So, the “stalemate” that led to the government shutdown CONTINUES.
