The title of a recently released CNN article is “Obama offers fix (?) for canceled plans” (Web-site/URL: http://money.cnn.com/2013/11/14/news/economy/obamacare-insurance/?hpt=hp_t1).
“Americans may be able to keep their individual insurance plans for one more year, under a fix offered by President Obama on Thursday (November 14 2013) to address a controversial provision of the Affordable Care Act (ACA)”. “may” IS NOT a guarantee.
“The deal is meant to mollify (soften) millions of people ENRAGED after their insurers canceled policies that do not meet Obamacare requirements”. We certainly DON’T need any more “enraged” people in our society nowadays.
“At the White House”, The President said: “This fix WON’T solve EVERY problem for EVERY person. But it’s going to help A LOT (?) of people“. How many is “a lot?”
“The insurance industry said the reversal could cause major problems, including a hike in premiums if fewer YOUNGER and HEALTHIER people opt to buy in the exchanges”.
According to Karen Ignagni, “chief executive of America’s Health Insurance Plans, an (insurance) industry trade group”, “Changing the rules after health plans have already met the requirements of the law could DESTABILIZE THE MARKET and result in HIGHER premiums for consumers” clearly a NEGATIVE consequence. “Additional steps must be taken to stabilize the marketplace and mitigate (as much as possible) the adverse impact on consumers”.
“In his remarks, Obama said he DIDN’T want his signature policy to be the reason people are LOSING their insurance” obviously. “The key point is that it allows us to be able to say to the folks who receive these notices, look, you know, I, the President of the United States and the insurance — the insurance model of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) — IS NOT going to be getting in the way of you shopping in the individual market that you used to have“. Now we have to pose the question: DO PEOPLE BELIEVE HIM (Obama)?
“But he also stressed that the reason for health reform is that the current system DID NOT work well, and that Americans will be able to find better quality insurance on the exchanges”. This is what Obama is INSISTING. “It’s important that we don’t pretend that somehow that’s (the existing individual market) a place worth going back to. Too often, it works fine, as long as you STAY HEALTHY. It doesn’t work well when you’re SICK” The latter is when we need the system to work THE MOST/URGENTLY.
Finally, Obama finished off with the admission that: “We FUMBLED the roll out on this health care law” obviously. This is evident from the “rage” people are expressing over losing healthcare coverage that had been working perfectly fine/well.
To conclude, it seems like the “fixes” that the President is “offering” AREN’T working and the President has now BROKEN his promise that “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfl55GgHr5E).
