The title of a recently released Fox News article is “Senate Dems WEAKEN GOP power with major FILIBUSTER rule change” (Web-site/URL: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/11/21/senate-nears-possible-vote-on-curbing-filibusters/).
“Senate Democrats BOWLED OVER Republicans on Thursday to win approval for a highly controversial rule change which would limit the GOP’s ability to block nominees, in a move Republicans called a “RAW POWER GRAB“. “bowled over” is an example of the FORCE & PAIN TECHNIQUE while “raw power grab” is an example of “We think they made us mad; they think we made them mad and here we go” because BOTH parties are POWER-CRAZED (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).
“After the vote”, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said: “It’s a SAD day in the history of the Senate”. This is open to INTERPRETATIONS (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI) because “It’s a sad day” for THE GOP.
“Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., moving quickly following days of speculation, used the so-called “NUCLEAR option” to pass the change. Typically, major changes like this take 67 votes, but he did it with just a simple majority” of 51 votes. For the GOP this “nuclear option” can be compared to a “nuclear” BOMB.
“President Obama, speaking Thursday (November 21, 2013) from the White House briefing room, said the change was needed to deal with Republicans’ “UNPRECEDENTED pattern of OBSTRUCTION“. This ISN’T so “unprecedented” anymore.
“He cited, among other stand-offs, the bid by Republicans to filibuster his nomination of Chuck Hagel, a former GOP senator, for Defense Secretary”. “For the sake of future generations, we CAN’T let it become NORMAL“. Unfortunately the filibuster HAS BECOME (somewhat) “normal”. Of course, as we know, there was a “standoff” over Hagel, because Hagel was a former GOP senator from NEBRASKA who DISAGREED with many of the GOP’s policies, most notably the SECOND IRAQ war, as we saw in a testy exchange between Hagel & JOHN MCCAIN (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EKTp3iEl8c).
“Republicans charged that Democrats were merely trying to shift focus away from OBAMACARE with the move” to eliminate filibusters. So much for JOHN BOEHNER saying that healthcare reform is “the law of the land” (Web-site/URL: http://nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/11/08/15029606-boehner-obamacare-is-the-law-of-the-land). They’re (the GOP is) clearly still trying to REPEAL it.
“In a statement immediately following the HISTORIC vote”, Sen. Orrin Hatch said: “Today (November 21 2013) we face A REAL CRISIS in the confirmation process, a crisis concocted by the Democrat majority to DISTRACT ATTENTION FROM the ObamaCare DISASTER and, in the process, consolidate more power than any majority has had in more than 200 years”. There are TWO Secondly, Hatch has gone back to being a partisan lightning rod and a far cry from the man who worked with the late Sen. TED KENNEDY in “creating the SCHIP program which continues to provide health insurance and coverage for millions of children throughout the world” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvYX28kzc5U). Let’s also note “historic”, because NO ONE has ever attempted to curb filibusters before but it’s necessary now because the number of filibusters or filibuster ATTEMPTS (Attn: TED CRUZ) has reached RIDICULOUS levels.
According to House Speaker John Boehner, “It sounds to me like Harry Reid is trying to change the subject and if I were taking all THE INCOMING FIRE that he’s taking over Obamacare, I’d try to change the subject too”. Reid isn’t “taking” as much “fire” over the healthcare MESS as KATHLEEN SEBELIUS.
“The vote on Thursday (November 21, 2013) VASTLY reduces the power of the minority to stall nominations and makes it easier for federal judges to get LIFETIME appointments”.
“Even Democrats have supported the right to filibuster in the past” OF COURSE. “The late Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., said in 2010 that changing the rules would “destroy the uniqueness of this institution (the Senate)”. “In the hands of a TYRANNICAL majority and leadership, that kind of emasculation of the cloture rule would mean that minority rights would cease to exist in the U.S. Senate”. Byrd was PART OF this “tyrannical majority” for MANY years. Let’s also note that Byrd WAS A MEMBER OF THE KKK and FILIBUSTERED the 1964 Civil Rights Act so he IS NOT an honorable person. He put the interests of WEST VIRGINIA ABOVE the interests of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
“Reid got the ball rolling on the rule change late Thursday morning (November 21, 2013). FRUSTRATED by Republicans’ stonewalling of numerous Obama nominees, he cast the shift as VITAL to the Senate’s survival”. “frustrated” is a fundamental characteristic of “Difficult People” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).
More specifically, “(Speaking) on the Senate floor”, Reid said: “The Senate is A LIVING THING, and to SURVIVE, it must CHANGE” or ADAPT TO THE CHANGING TIMES. This is something that the GOP or Grand OLD Party is fundamentally opposed to.
Finally, “McConnell charged that Reid’s attempt proves the Democrats are willing to “do and say just about anything” to get their way”. Well THE GOP DOES THE SAME THING making this the latest/yet another example of “We think they made us mad; they think we made them mad and here we go” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI)
So, the FILIBUSTER is a hot topic on Capitol Hill once again. This is aimed at stopping characters like TED CRUZ from rambling on like the Energizer Bunny. It’s always the MINORITY party that complains about filibustering limitations because it’s the MINORITY party that often needs to filibuster in order to ATTRACT/DRAW ATTENTION TO ITSELF, which, again, is what POLITICIANS do for a living.
