The title of a recently released CBS News article is “Democrats (and) Republicans (are) STILL at odds over Obamacare’s fundamentals” (Web-site/URL: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/democrats-republicans-still-at-odds-over-obamacares-fundamentals/).
According to House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, speaking on “Face the Nation”, “I DON’T think Obamacare has FAILED. Access to Obamacare HAS BEEN a failure; AT THIS POINT IN TIME, IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. So, from that standpoint, the substance of Obamacare is YET TO BE TESTED” which is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from being a “failure”. “To the extent that it has been tested…,”it’s been a success”.
“But Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., says the law has failed on THREE fronts: the web-site, the president’s pledge that PEOPLE WOULD BE ABLE TO KEEP THEIR HEALTH PLANS IF THEY LIKED THEM, and on lowering cost of healthcare”. “I DO NOT believe you can fix this law to lower the cost AND INCREASE ACCESS”. “people would be able to keep their health plans if they liked them” has been THE BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT. “We have to SCRAP IT TO START ANEW and GET BI-PARTISAN CONSENSUS (?) that puts THE PATIENTS first AND lowers the premiums”. When was the last time POLITICIANS “(put) the patients first?”
“McCarthy offered a list of ideas to reform the healthcare system, including TORT REFORM,BUYING HEALTH INSURANCE ACROSS STATE LINES and CREATING SMALL BUSINESS POOLS“. The President has agreed to/with ALL of these suggestions and yet THE GOP IS STILL SCREAMING FOR REPEAL.
“But the GOP has yet to put these ideas into legislation, so Hoyer said that they “HAVE OFFERED NO ALTERNATIVE at this point in time”. This is what the GOP has done since 2010 when the Affordable Care Act was passed. “Republicans are PUSHING TO SCRAP THE ENTIRE LAW, NOT TWEAK IT“. JOHN BOEHNER‘s “Hell No You Can’t” rant is clear evidence of this (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOdvn2dtM0A).
Finally, “Hoyer said that’s NOT necessary“. “We DON’T need to start over. I DON’T think the American people want to start over”
Is this true? “A CBS News poll released last week showed that a PLURALITY of Americans, 48 percent, think the law has GOOD aspects THAT CAN BE KEPT as long as CHANGES ARE MADE TO IT OVERALL. Another 43 percent think the law needs to be REPEALED ENTIRELY and just seven percent think the law should be kept in place as is“. So, a slight majority (48%-43%) “think the law has GOOD aspects that can be kept as long as CHANGES ARE MADE TO IT OVERALL“. This is only FIVE percentage points more than the proportion of people who “think the law should be REPEALED ENTIRELY” so this should raise at least some red flags for President Obama and especially HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES SECRETARY KATHLEEN SEBELIUS (since many are blaming her for the DISASTROUS rollout, with some even CALLING FOR HER RESIGNATION).
The conclusion to this article ISN’T surprising: “Democrats (and) Republicans still at odds over Obamacare’s fundamentals”, AS EXPECTED (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). Is there anything that CAPITOL HILL POLITICIANS ARE NOT “at odds over?”
