“Pizza outlet attacked as India (and) U.S. FAIL to cool diplomat row”: Reuters

The title of a recently released Reuters article is “PIZZA outlet attacked as India (and) U.S. FAIL TO COOL DIPLOMATIC ROW” (Web-site/URL: http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/12/20/us-india-usa-idUSBRE9BI0JE20131220).

“Indian protesters RANSACKED a Dominos Pizza outlet in a Mumbai suburb on Friday, DEMANDING A BAN on U.S. goods as officials from the two countries struggled to defuse a row over the arrest of an Indian diplomat in New York. There are TWO things to note right off the bat. First, “ransacked” is VIOLENT. Secondly, let’s rephrase thisUS “officials…struggled to defuse a row over the arrest of an Indian diplomat” in New York while INDIAN “officials” are LIVID & LASHING OUT at the United States.

“Police and the Indian franchise of the U.S. chain said no-one was hurt in the attack, which came amid UNRELENTING RAGE in India over the arrest and subsequent strip-search of Devyani Khobragade for visa fraud and under-payment of her housekeeper”. As we know “rage” is a DANGEROUS emotion.

“India has DEMANDED that the charges be dropped against the diplomat and her father threatened to start a fast if U.S. authorities pressed ahead with the case”. Well this is exactly what’s happening: “US authorities (are pressing) ahead with (this) case”.

“U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry expressed REGRET over the case in a phone call to India’s national security adviser this week, but U.S. prosecutors have defended the investigation against Khobragade and her treatment”. Again this reminds us of “regret” or “sorry” between the United States and CHINA in 2001 (Web-site/URL: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2001/apr/11/china.usa).

According to minister for information and broadcasting Manish Tiwari, “The fact is that (the) American authorities have behaved ATROCIOUSLY with an Indian diplomat. And obviously, America HAS TO MAKE GOOD for its actions“. Again there are TWO things to note here. First “atrocious” is A DAMNING CRITICISMSecondly “has to make good” implies that the “force and pain technique” will be used (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI), implying that this will be BRUTAL/NASTY. “So therefore, I think it is a legitimate EXPECTATION, that IF they have erred, and they have erred GRIEVOUSLY in this matter, they should COME FORTH and APOLOGIZE“, Again this is NOT happening.

“The U.S. Justice Department confirmed that Khobragade was strip-searched after her arrest. A senior Indian government source has said the interrogation also included a cavity search, although U.S. officials have denied this” AS EXPECTED (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). When was the last time any POLITICIANS WILLINGLY/OPENLY admitted any wrongdoing? NEVER.

According to Uttam Khobragade, the diplomat’s father, “I want these FALSE and FABRICATED charges to be dropped“,…”adding that he would go on a hunger strike if his demands aren’t met”. “That will be my LAST option.” This is the latest THREAT

FURIOUS that one of its foreign service officers had been handcuffed and treated like “a common criminal“, India on Tuesday (December 17 2013) REMOVED SECURITY BARRIERS outside the U.S. embassy in New Delhi and withdrew some privileges from U.S. diplomats”. There are THREE things to note here. First, as we’ve said many times, “furious” is a DANGEROUS emotionSecondly notice “Furious that one of its foreign service officers had been handcuffed and treated like ” a common criminal“… Does this mean then that “officers” and government officials in general should be given SPECIAL PRIVILEGES?

According to Neerja Chowdhury, “a political analyst and a former political editor of Indian Express newspaper”, “Because of THE ELECTION, they will try to OUTDO each other” or OUTDUEL “each other”. “They DON’T want to be seen as weak on the issue when the mood in the country (India) is one of HUGE ANGER about this“. Again, there are TWO things to note hereFirst, “the country” refers to INDIA here. OK there may be “huge anger” in the States too, but most Americans are preoccupied with THEIR OWN DAILY LIVES to pay much attention to overseas eventsMost Americans are “angry” about THE AMERICAN ECONOMYIndia will hold elections before MAY 31 2014 (Web-site/URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_general_election,_2014).

According to Azam Khan, the state’s urban development minister, “Whatever happened with her is CONDEMNABLEIf she returns to India, WE ARE READY TO GIVE HER A TICKET for the 2014 polls” IN DEFIANCE OF the U.S. LET’S SEE WHAT HAPPENS HERE.

Finally, Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara released the following statement:: “One wonders why there is so much OUTRAGE about the alleged treatment of the Indian national accused of PERPETRATING these acts, but precious LITTLE outrage about the alleged treatment of the Indian VICTIM and HER SPOUSE.  OK, this is legit, but we have to wonder IF Bharara is merely trying to COVER THE U.S. GOVERNMENT’S BUTT hereThere is certainly a DELICATE BALANCING ACT between the treatment of the victim(s) and the treatment of the accusedThis is what THE UNITED STATES EXPECTS of OTHER COUNTRIES so OTHER COUNTRIES surely EXPECT THE SAME from THE UNITED STATES

To conclude, again “pizza” is a WESTERN symbol and DOMINO’S Pizza is an AMERICAN symbolso with the arrest & STRIP SEARCH of an INDIAN diplomat in New York, we can certainly UNDERSTAND why people in India would be LIVID at the United StatesThis is an attack on Indian people’s DIGNITY which reminds us of the scenes in LEBANON, where a KFC restaurant was “torched” and “the windows of a HARDEE’s were broken” in angry reactions to the film “Innocence of Muslims” (Web-site/URL: http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/video/protests-tension-arab-world-killed-17241011). Indians are ANGRY at the US, regardless of whether they support Khobragade or her housekeeper.
