The title of a recently released Yahoo! article is “GOP House targets health care law; 67 Dems join in” (Web-site/URL: http://news.yahoo.com/gop-house-targets-health-care-law-67-dems-201647610–politics.html).
“The Republican-led House voted overwhelmingly Friday (January 10 2014) to bolt new security requirements onto President Barack Obama’s health care law, with 67 Democrats breaking ranks to join with the GOP. It was the first SKIRMISH of what is certain to be a LONG and CONTENTIOUS election-year fight“. There are TWO things to note right off the bat. First, “skirmishes” can turn NASTY in a hurry. On top of this, there are MORE THAN ENOUGH “contentious” issues in the world already.
“The vote was 291-122 with Republicans relentlessly focusing on “Obamacare,” convinced that Americans’ unease with the troubled law will translate into significant election gains in November”, more specifically NOVEMBER 4, 2014 (Web-site/URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections,_2014). “Dozens of Democrats, NERVOUS ABOUT THEIR RE-ELECTION CHANCES or their campaigns for other offices (e.g. HOUSE members running for SENATE etc.,), voted for the GOP bill”. Again there are TWO things to note here. First, notice “nervous about re-election chances”. HERE WE GO AGAIN.
According to Speaker John Boehner, “Americans have the right to know if the president’s health care law has PUT THEIR PERSONAL INFORMATION AT RISK and today’s (January 10 2014) bipartisan vote reflects that CONCERN“. Again, there are TWO things to note here. First, “put their personal information at risk” reminds us of all the trouble at TARGET (Web-site/URL: http://gigaom.com/2014/01/10/target-admits-personal-information-breach-lowers-q4-expectations/). On top of this, the GOP is “concerned” about EVERYTHING Democrats do and vice versa.
“Among the Democrats joining the Republicans was Rep. Steve Israel of New York, the chairman of his party’s campaign committee dedicated to electing Democrats (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee)”. “”I voted for this bill because I want to make sure CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION IS PROTECTED“, which MAKES PERFECT SENSE. “That’s just COMMON SEN SENSE“, which unfortunately is something that NOT many POLITICIANS have a lot of. “This is an added consumer safeguard on top of the many consumer protections in the law that already exist“. Israel was re-elected by a 58%-42% margin in 2012 (Web-site/URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Israel).
According to Rep. Joe Pitts, R-Pa., “who argued that the Health and Human Services Department’s promise to notify Americans of security breaches needed THE FORCE of law“, “What if Target HAD NOT bothered to tell anyone?” This is yet another/the latest example of the FORCE & PAIN TECHNIQUE (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). Pitts was re-elected by a 58%-38.9% margin in 2012 (Web-site/URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Pitts). As a side note, let’s remind ourselves that Pitts co-sponsored the STUPAK-PITTS Amendment in the AFFORDABLE CARE ACT with former Rep. BART STUPAK.
“Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., spoke of “credible and documented FEAR” of the health care website”. This is what POLITICIANS do for a living: inject “fear” into others. McCarthy is the House Majority Whip since 2011 (Web-site/URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_McCarthy_(California_politician)).
“But Democrats said there had been no breaches at the health care website. The bill was simply a Republican effort to “PUT FEAR INTO the public“, according to Rep. Frank Pallone, D-N.J.” Again, POLITICIANS “put fear into the public”. THIS IS THEIR JOB. POLITICIANS follow the ‘Vote for ME because MY OPPONENT WOULD BE INEFFECTIVE‘ rule. Pallone was re-elected by a 63.3%-35.2% margin in 2012 (Web-site/URL: http://ballotpedia.org/Frank_Pallone#Full_history).
Finally, “Rep. Diane DeGette, D-Colo., described the legislation as a “SOLUTION in search of a PROBLEM“, when we should have a PROBLEM “in search of a” SOLUTION.
To conclude, the GOP is clearly TARGETING Democrats IN TOUGH RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGNS. They’re only doing this in THE HOUSE because Republicans don’t have the numbers in the Senate.
