The title of a recently released Al-Jazeera article is “China leader warns of ‘ democracy TRAP’ for HK” (Web-site/URL: http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2014/3/6/-china-parliamentheadwarnsofwesternstyledemocracyforhongkong.html).
“The head of China’s parliament warned Thursday (March 6, 2014) that importing Western-style democracy for a planned direction election in 2017 could lead to “DISASTROUS” results, according to a delegate who attended a closed-door meeting at the current session of China’s National People’s Congress (NPC)”. There are TWO things to note here. First “disastrous” implies that China DOES NOT WANT Hong Kong to have democracy. On top of this, it seems like EVERYTHING is done behind “closed doors” in China.
“Hong Kong returned to Chinese rule in 1997 with WIDE-RANGING AUTONOMY (?), an INDEPENDENT (?) judiciary and relatively FREE PRESS (?) under the formula of “one country, TWO SYSTEMS (?) “ — along with AN UNDATED PROMISE OF FULL DEMOCRACY, an issue NEVER BROACHED by the British during 150 years of colonial rule”. There are FOUR things to note here. First, does Hong Kong have “wide-ranging autonomy and an independent judiciary?” Seems like CHINA is getting whatever it wants. Secondly, the attack on KEVIN LAU STRONGLY suggests that Hong Kong’s “press” IS NOT “free”. Thirdly, where is the “TWO SYSTEMS” in Hong Kong? The “two systems” DON’T EXIST. On top of all this, “undated promise” is JUST AS BAD as “never broached”.
“In a sign of Beijing’s HARDENING STANCE, Zhang Dejiang, the head of China’s National People’s Congress (NPC), told Hong Kong delegates attending the annual NPC meetings in Beijing that Western-style democracy WOULD NEED TO BE ADAPTED to Hong Kong” which implies that if China has its way there will NEVER be full democracy in Hong Kong. The latest person to suggest this is ZHANG DEJIANG. What is democracy, CHINESE-style? On top of this, “Beijing’s stance” HAS ALWAYS BEEN “hard” when it comes to the issue of DEMOCRACY because, as we know, Communist governments are UNDEMOCRATIC.
According to Ma Fung-kwok, “a Hong Kong deputy to the NPC”, “You CANNOT just move or copy (the electoral system) from abroad, otherwise you might very easily find it CAN’T adapt to the local environment and become a democracy TRAP … and possibly bring a DISASTROUS result“. Ma has also been BRAINWASHED by China. The NPC is merely A SOUNDING BOARD.
“STATE news agency Xinhua reported Zhang pledged support for suffrage in Hong Kong, BUT no mention was made of importing electoral systems from abroad”. There are TWO things to note here. First, again “state news (agencies)” merely SPIT OUT PROPAGANDA. On top of this, this is yet an example of how PROBLEMATIC the word “but” is (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-AJviZ8Itk).
“Xinhua quoted Zhang as saying” “It has been the persistent standpoint of the central government to support the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in developing democracy STEP BY STEP in accordance with the HKSAR Basic Law”. This “development” is WAY TOO SLOW. The Basic Law in Hong Kong is A FAILURE.
“Other delegates in the meeting said Zhang had re-emphasized three key criteria for the poll, including that candidates must “LOVE” China and abide by the city’s mini-constitution that states all candidates must be approved by a “broadly representative nominating committee” that would more than likely be dominated by pro-Beijing loyalists”. The criteria that anyone seeking public office in Hong Kong must “love China” is A FARCE. This sounds DONALD TSANG who called Democrats “horrid animals” for disagreeing with him (Web-site/URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_term_of_Donald_Tsang_as_Chief_Executive_of_Hong_Kong) or LEUNG CHUN-YING THE COMMUNIST.
According to Rita Fan, “an NPC delegate who also attended the meeting, citing comments by Zhang”, “This direct electoral system cannot damage THE MOTHERLAND’S sovereignty, safety and future development, nor damage the China-Hong Kong relationship“. “the motherland’s sovereignty?” Fan also sounds like AN UNDERGROUND COMMUNIST now/someone who has been in bed with the Chinese government.
Finally, “Pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong have grown by this “FAKE democracy” and have threatened to seal off the city’s business district in an Occupy Central campaign of civil disobedience this summer unless Beijing allows open and public nominations”. “fake democracy” will only give the Occupy Central movement MORE momentum
To conclude, just like the situation in UKRAINE, we can separate Hong Kong into TWO DIFFERENT FACTIONS: pro-WESTERN & pro-CHINA. Right now, the pro-CHINA is clearly ON TOP.
